Le Mas is situated close to the border between Vienne and Charente, in the northern part of Nouvelle Aquitaine. Until 2016 it was part of the Poitou Charentes region, which is the third most visited region of France. No matter what kind of holiday you prefer, you’re bound to find something to enjoy in this diverse area.
For those who like to go out and about, there is a wide variety of attractions within an hour and a half of Le Mas.
If you prefer delving into the past, there are prehistoric sites and Romanesque architecture, while those wanting a cinematic experience might be interested in the Parc du Futuroscope, just north of Poitiers.
Anyone who lives to shop is within ninety minutes of four major towns and cities: Poitiers, Angouleme, Niort and Limoges. There are also numerous smaller outlets selling local produce, not to mention the markets held in towns and villages throughout the region.
Families with children can find a good selection of attractions catering for the younger members of the family, such as the Vallee des Singes near Romagne, while there are numerous leisure and activity parks within an hours drive.
In 2012 Poitou-Charentes was one of Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel: top ten regions of the world , when they described it as “Much more laid-back than the Med (but with almost as much sunshine) and ideally suited to family holidays, this is a place where you can slow the pace right down.”
